What Does It Mean to Have Flawless Porcelain Skin?
Porcelain skin is smooth, free of blemishes or dark spots, and has an even tone. It doesn’t matter what color it is, it’s just the kind of skin that looks good no matter what. It means you have flawless skin, like a porcelain doll.
If you have porcelain skin, you’re lucky! But if you don’t, there are a few things you can do to get closer to that ideal. We’ll cover it later in the article.
Is a Porcelain Skin Tone the Same as Fair Skin?
Now, there’s also the concept of a porcelain skin tone. This is different from porcelain skin in that it refers to a specific, very pale skin tone. It’s defined as having a natural skin tone with 95% pink undertones and 5% yellow undertones. So, if you’re porcelain-toned, your skin is probably very pink!
Fair skin, on the other hand, will have more yellow undertones and look less pink. It’s still considered a light skin tone, but it’s not porcelain-toned. Now that we’ve gotten this out of the way, let’s discuss how to achieve porcelain skin (in the sense of a flawless complexion, not a porcelain-toned one).
Tip #1: Always Wear Sunscreen
This is number one for a reason. Wearing sunscreen is the best way to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Not only will it help you avoid sunburn, but it will also help prevent wrinkles, fine lines, and skin cancer. Make sure to choose a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, and reapply it every two hours if you’re out in the sun.
Tip #2: Use Gentle Cleansers That Get Along With Your Skin Type
Whether you have dry skin, oily skin, or combination skin, there are gentle cleansers out there for washing your face. The key is to find one that doesn’t strip your skin of its natural oils. You should also avoid cleansers with harsh chemicals, like sulfates, that can irritate your skin.
Tip #3: Exfoliate and Tighten Your Pores
Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells and give your skin a healthy glow. You can use a physical exfoliator, like a sugar scrub, or a chemical exfoliator, like an AHA/BHA serum. We recommend chemical exfoliators for one reason: they won’t scratch or irritate your skin like a physical exfoliator can. Add them to your skincare routine, and you’ll never look back.
Once you’ve exfoliated, it’s time to tighten your pores. This is especially important if you have large pores. You can use a clay face mask or a pore-minimizing serum to help with this. Remember, porcelain skin is smooth first and foremost!
Tip #4: Opt for Quality Skincare Products
Don’t skimp on your skincare products! This is one area where you don’t want to cut corners. Invest in quality products that are worth your money and don’t contain harmful toxins. There are a lot of great skincare brands out there, so do your research and find one that works for you.
How to find the right products for your skin type? The best thing to do is to consult with a dermatologist or esthetician. They can help you figure out what products will work best for your skin type and concerns. If you know someone who has a similar skin type to yours, you can also ask them what products they use and recommend.
Tip #5: Drink a Lot of Water
Water is essential for all aspects of your health, including your skin. Drinking enough water will help to keep your skin hydrated and looking its best.
Make sure to drink eight glasses of water a day, and more if you’re sweating or exercising. If you don’t stay hydrated, neither will your skin, and dryness is the first step towards the sworn enemy of porcelain skin: wrinkles.
Tip #6: Avoid Touching Your Face
This one is hard, we know. But it’s important! Touching your face can transfer bacteria from your hands to your skin, which can lead to breakouts. It can also cause irritation, redness, and dryness. If you can’t help but touch your face, make sure to wash your hands first.
Tip #7: Keep Makeup Minimal
We know, we know. You love your makeup. But it’s not doing your skin any favors. Wearing a full face of makeup every day can clog your pores and lead to breakouts. If you must wear makeup, make sure to remove it before you go to bed (using a gentle makeup remover). Sleeping in your makeup is a recipe for disaster, not for porcelain skin!
Make It All a Routine (But Don’t Sweat It)
The most important tip of all is to make all of these tips a part of your daily routine. If you can do that, you’ll be well on your way to achieving the porcelain skin of your dreams! Keep in mind that preventing damage is easier than repairing it, so don’t wait until it’s too late to start taking care of your skin.
If you don’t succeed, don’t beat yourself up. Everyone’s skin is different, and what works for one person might not work for another. Just keep trying different things until you find what works for you. And if you have acne, opt for professional treatment before trying any at-home remedies. The last thing you want to do is make your acne worse!
Enjoy the Journey as Much as the Goal
Porcelain skin is definitely worth the effort, but don’t forget to enjoy the journey! Try not to get too caught up in achieving the perfect skin, and don’t forget to pamper yourself along the way. Get a massage, try out a new skincare product, or just take some time to relax.
