Birchbox: June 2015
Got my Birchbox in the mail today! Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that costs $10 for a women’s subscription and is delivered monthly. Birchbox is arguably the company that really popularized subscription boxes, and I love it for its points program and flexibility in choosing a sample / curated box per month. I didn’t get the curated box this month. I really love the packaging this week! I’m a little sad I sliced through a bit on the top when I was opening the cardboard packaging. At first, I was wondering if it would be a summer wedding theme, but it’s not.
So from the card, it seems like the “Say Yes!” is a “Say Yes!” to adventure. Birchbox sent an email a few days ago about the giveaway they’re doing, but I’ve only gotten 20% off codes. For Birchbox, this isn’t anything significant, because they almost always have a 20% off code of some sort (e.g., TAKEOFF20, MOBILE20). Now, onto the products themselves.
I didn’t take a picture of the Temple Spa Shampoo and Conditioner. I’m just really not impressed by them, since I’ve gotten them in hotels, and the sample included in the Birchbox is literally the same one you would find in your shower.
If I had to pick a favorite product from this box, it would be the Coola Fresh Mango Moisturizer / Sunscreen. It has a hefty SPF 50, perfect for summer. It really does smell like mango, and I do find it moisturizing, a little bit oily. I actually don’t eat mango because of the flavor, but the smell isn’t overpowering, and I can deal with this. I ended up gifting this to my mom, since she loves mango! The L. Erickson hair tie is a nice bonus item that will be used. A full set of 6 of these is $12, so each one is worth $2. Overpriced? Maybe. But they are nice and stretchy, which is a must for my very thick hair.
My eyes get a bit irritated in the summer because of allergies flaring up now and then, and I’m hoping these Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels will be the perfect thing to help soothe them. I like to stick eye patches in the fridge before using them. These were my sample choice items, and I think they’ve been a choice for a few months running now.
To be honest, I was a little disappointed to see this pencil. Birchbox had promised that an Eyeko Fat Liner would be included in every box, but they had customs problems, so we’re supposed to receive them in a later box. This Marcelle Mini Eyeliner and the aforementioned hair tie are the consolation prize. I was also disappointed because the spoiler page had listed the item as an Eyeliner Kit, since that’s what the eyeliner is taken out of, but part of me was expecting a kit. The pencil is very soft, and I like the color, so I decided to swatch it and keep it.
What did you think of this box? If you subscribe to Birchbox, what did you get?
Don’t forget, my giveaway for a Colourpop Eyeshadow ends this Friday. It’s super easy to enter, so don’t miss out!
