The Walmart Beauty Box is a quarterly subscription box that costs $5. I’ve been subscribed to this box since it started coming out (I think there have only been two other previous boxes? It’s $5, so I don’t expect much, but this one was still disappointing.
The box I got includes:
- Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara
- Dove Body Wash (Mandarin and Tiare Scent)
- Schwarzkopf Ultime Shampoo and Conditioner
- Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Cleanser
The box also included various foil samples and coupons, which really have no ability to be impressive, but at least had some variety?
The only product I think that has some kind of stand-out value (in comparison to the rest of the box) is the Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara. This mascara is pretty average, nothing ordinary. I think my usual mascara (Lancome Hypnose Drama), is a bit more volumizing, but this one is good for layering and doesn’t flake. I don’t know how much I believe the claims about how it’s supposed to be healthy and good for your lashes, but I suppose it at least probably doesn’t hurt them, right? I really don’t like the clinical smell of some mascaras (e.g., afore-mentioned Hypnose Drama, Maybelline One-by-One), so at least this one doesn’t smell like that. I have noticed that the mascara is a bit clumpy, though, so I’ll probably stop using this one soon or only use it when I know I’ll have time to go through it with a lash comb / clean up under my eyes with a Q-Tip.
The Dove Mandarin and Tiaré Body Wash smells nice. ‘Nuff said. Formulation typical to other body washes…not much you can do about it. In general, I really like Dove body washes and find them more moisturizing, and I have never, ever come across a Dove body wash with a scent that I disliked. I currently use the Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash every day that I got from the Allure Beauty Box (new one might be coming out soon!), which is perfect for dryer winter skin.
The shampoo and conditioners I haven’t tried yet. I have super long hair (down to my waist) that is also super-thick, so I go through shampoo and conditioner like no other, so I’ll save the sample for maybe a two-day trip or something, because I will go through that way too fast.
I was excited to try the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters Cleanser, because I’ve had good experiences with the brand, especially their make-up wipes. The package also says that it has white tea and Vitamin E in it. It smells great, but the cleanser is probably better for oilier skin. I still prefer creams over gels! This is pretty cheap to pick up, so I think it’s worth a try if you’re looking for a new gel cleanser and your skin is just a bit on the oilier side.
Overall, I think the value of the box is pretty weak compared to the earlier box. Shampoo/conditioner samples are extremely run-of-the-mill for me, and while some part of me likes hoarding them, I extremely rarely get around to using them. The only standout products to me is the mascara, since I like trying makeup / skincare products. At $5, I’m not complaining, but I’m not recommending anything, either. If you’re thinking about subscribing, some people commented at My Subscription Addiction that there have been some shipping delays / double-charging, although I haven’t experienced any of those problems. I’ve also noticed a good variation among products received among subscribers. Here’s to hoping the next box will be better!
